Four more figure skaters from Chatham- Kent
qualified for the Canadian championships at
Skate Canada's Challenge events on the weekend.
That raises the total to six local skaters going
to the nationals.
Katrina de Liberato of the Chatham Figure
Skating Club will go the junior national
championships Feb. 11-14 in Calgary after
placing eighth in pre-novice ladies at the
Western Challenge.
Chelsea Robinson and Michael Guyett of the
Chatham club are also headed to the junior
nationals after placing eighth in pre-novice
dance at the Western Challenge.
It
will be the first trip to the nationals for de
Liberato, Robinson and Guyett.
Ashley Simond of the Tilbury Figure Skating Club
was 10th in junior ladies at the Western
Challenge. She qualified for the Canadian
championships Jan. 14-18 in Saskatoon.
Chatham's Christi Steele and Adam Johnson, who
had already qualified for the nationals, placed
fourth in senior pairs at the Senior Challenge.
William Lindsay of Chatham didn't qualify for
nationals in the senior men's division with a
20th-place finish at the Senior Challenge. He
was 20th in the short program and 19th in the
free skate.
