Skaters win
sectional medals
William Lindsay and Ashley
Glassco of the Chatham Figure Skating Club won
silver medals at the Western Ontario Sectional
Championships on the weekend.
Lindsay was second in the senior men's short
and free programs to qualify for Skate Canada's
Western Challenge on Dec. 4-7 in Mississauga.
Glassco was second in pre-juvenile ladies
with a personal-best 22.74 points, only .04 out
of first place.
Katrina de Liberato, pre-novice dance team
Chelsey Robinson and Michael Guyett, and senior
pairs team Christi Steele and Adam Johnson won
bronze medals to qualify for the Western
Challenge.
De Liberato finished third out of 36
pre-novice ladies with 71.95 points.
Robinson and Guyett were sixth in their first
dance, fourth in their second dance and third in
their free dance to move up to third overall.
Steele and Johnson were third in the short
program and second in the freeskate to finish
third.
Ashley Simond of the Tilbury Figure Skating
Club also qualified for the Western Challenge by
placing fourth in junior ladies.
Tilbury's Sarah Olivastri and Nicholas
Marchand were third in juvenile dance to qualify
for the 2009 Ontario Trillium Cup. Tilbury's
Vanessa Burgess competed in juvenile ladies but
failed to advance.
